Food stylists build their hero food with a few tiny steam diffusers and hoses under the food and hidden from view. Food stylists working with the Steam Controller for the first time are usually relieved that a solution has finally been found to create beautiful looking imitation steam.

Adding the steam effect to your shoot need not create extra work and distraction for the kitchen, either. Most film productions hire a special effects technician to work the Steam Controller on set and to rig plates with diffusers in advance for the kitchen. Special effects technicians experienced with the Steam Controller system are resident coast to coast in North America.

Print photographers who are interested in using the Steam Controller do not necessarily need to hire a special effects technician on every occasion.
